Friends of the W. Anne Gibson-Esmond Station Library board of Directors

DAVID STITT, President

What book has made the biggest impact on you and why?

"My parents were also avid readers, and had quite a variety of books.  There was a set of six volumes (the titles are lost to me) that attempted to summarize the history of the world.  In reading those, I learned that there was much more to our world than what I could see in the many small towns where we lived."

KRISTINA KNAUER, Vice-President

How did reading shape your life?
"I can hardly think of any part of my that has not been molded by books. Books have always been my friends and how I spend my days (currently in the Vail Academy High School library). I discuss books with students, teachers and other volunteers every single day."

JANICE ALLEN, secretary and Treasurer

Would you rather: Read inside a cozy log cabin next to the fireplace or outside on a warm, sandy beach?

"Neither. For me the ideal spot is under the awning of our camping trailer at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon."

"Yes, Virgin River by Robyn Carr.

I love the story and it always makes

Share an author (living or passed) you’d like to have dinner with and why.

"I would love to sit, talk and have dinner with Maya Angelou. Her poetry and the impact she has made through her writings fascinate me and I would love to talk through what got her started, what challenges she faced and who she looked up to and why. I feel like it would be inspiring to talk with her."

Why are you a Friend of the W. Anne Gibson-Esmond Station Library?

"As a mom and an early childhood education professional, I bring both perspectives to the work of the Friends. Research tells us a child's brain is 90% developed before entering kindergarten with a majority of brain building happening in the first three years! It is never too early to begin instilling a love for literacy!"

Pam Kelty

What is your favorite book and why?

"It is really hard to pick a favorite book, I have so many, and some I surely loved, but have forgotten. One of my recent favorites was Undaunted Courage by Stephen Ambrose about the Lewis and Clark Expedition."
